Star Luffa

Luffa acutangula

This heat-loving cucumber rarity delights both market gardeners and home growers with its slender, dark green fruits, up to 50 cm long, featuring broad ridges and a star-shaped cross-section. When harvested young, star luffa can be eaten raw or cooked and has a flavour reminiscent of courgette. As it matures, the fruit develops a robust inner skeleton that can be used as a natural sponge.
